About Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo, celebrated on the 5th of May, commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. While often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16th, Cinco de Mayo holds significant cultural importance, particularly in the United States and the state of Puebla in Mexico. It has evolved into a festive occasion that honors Mexican heritage and culture, marked by parades, traditional music and dance, vibrant decorations, and, of course, delicious Mexican cuisine. Across the world, people join in the festivities to celebrate the resilience and spirit of Mexico, making Cinco de Mayo a joyful and colorful expression of unity and cultural pride.
